Nora Madison and her daughter Olivia have been the fashionista duo of MADISON since opening their first store in 2010. Since then MADISON has quickly become a premier shopping destination. They offer a curated selection of irresistible pieces to compliment each customer’s individual style. We chatted with Nora about family and fashion.

How did you first get interested in fashion?

From my earliest memories as a child, I was enamored with fashion, beautiful fabrics, and prints.

What made you want to open your own store?

After moving to Raleigh from NYC, where I owned a restaurant and event planning business, I knew I wanted to pursue fashion as my next venture. Olivia and I co-founded MADISON in the summer of 2010 and focused on building a concept that would provide our customers with a luxurious and inspiring environment where they could shop for their favorite clothes at affordable prices.

When did Olivia first express interest in helping you with the store?

Olivia and I always dreamed about opening our own store together. When we moved to Raleigh seven years ago, Olivia was a freshman at NCSU. Having grown up in an entrepreneurial family, she has always been interested in business. Olivia majored in accounting and interned at Deloitte in Charlotte, but ultimately turned down a full-time job offer to follow her passion at MADISON.

How would you describe you and your daughters’ styles? How do they mesh?

We both share a similar aesthetic. So much so that we often find ourselves unintentionally wearing the same outfit! In short, we’re always drawn to timeless styles with contemporary updates. Olivia and I have always had a keen eye for the next trend and this has been an important factor of MADISON’s success.

How has your relationship grown from this experience?

I couldn’t have asked for a more ideal partner. Olivia is smart, hardworking and creative…like her mama! We work well together because we trust and respect each other. We inspire each other by contributing our individual perspective. Olivia and I compliment each other’s strengths and this helps us tackle challenges.

What’s the most rewarding thing about running your own business?

The best part of running our own business is working on a company we believe in. Our relationship has grown on so many levels. Most importantly, working together has kept us close as a family.

With fall just around the corner, be sure to visit MADISON. They’ve got some really exciting pieces for the new season.
