August gets a bad rap. It’s often the hottest, muggiest month of the year and gets called the “dog days of summer.” Instead of being bummed at the end of summer, at Cameron Village we choose to get excited for all the Triangle’s college students headed back to campus!
From dorm room decor to a comfy new mattress for that off-campus apartment and team spirit wear, Cameron Village has what college students need to ace this semester.
Long gone are the boring, bare cement walls of dorm rooms past. Now there are so many ways to decorate a room to reflect a student’s unique personality.
Light Years is known for its trendy fashion jewelry but when you step inside the Cameron Village location you see so many decor and houseware items perfect for personalizing a space. Manager Noelle Woodrum says college students love the offbeat coffee mugs and wall decor. When it comes to decorating she points to a shelf of beautiful, multi-colored stones perfect for a dorm room shelf. “The crystals are really popular. It’s nice to set up a little space that’s relaxing. Crystals are a good choice. We have some locally made candles,” Woodrum says.
Don’t miss the colorful, funky socks and be sure to check out the jewelry. Woodrum says the tassel earrings are really popular with college women. She recommends stud earrings for students too. Woodrum points to one rack of earrings and says, “Fun little studs you can just leave in and wear to class everyday.”

After your stop at Light Years, go right down the sidewalk to Palm Avenue for the brightest looks for the end of summer. As college women come back to Raleigh, they find the cutest Lilly Pulitzer sundresses and skirts at Palm Avenue.
The best finds for students are Palm Avenue’s selection of Lilly notebooks, planners, and pens. Palm Avenue employees say the Lilly wristlets and lanyards are popular with college women to keep their ID’s and keys close at hand on campus.

We’ve Got Spirit
Yes we do! If you back the Pack, the perfect place to find all your back-to-campus spirit gear is Alumni Hall. Every inch of this Cameron Village hot spot is red and white. Kyle Chavis with Alumni Hall has great recommendations for NC State students, “You’re definitely going to need a tumbler. The Yeti tumblers are popular. Coffee cups. You’ll need a lot of coffee if you’re staying up studying.”
Chavis says many students are coming in for NCSU t-shirts before school starts. It may be hot outside, but don’t forget sweatshirts for chilly lecture halls. He says all students and Wolfpack Club members get 15% off at Alumni Hall. Go Pack!

After busy days on campus and late nights with friends, college students need a comfortable place to get some rest. The Cameron Village Mattress Firm has been busy helping students find the the most comfortable bed for them.
Full and Queen sizes are most popular for students moving into off-campus apartments. If your school allows you to bring your own mattress, Mattress Firm has great deals on XL Twin mattresses for dorms.
Come find great Back To School deals on a new mattress, just don’t get too comfortable, oversleep and miss that early class!

August is amazing as college students move in and begin another school year. See, the “dog days” aren’t so bad, especially at Woof Gang Bakery. College students, grab a treat for your four-legged friends before you head back to campus. You’ll miss them when you’re away from home.
Have a great semester, everyone!
