Everyone knows that Cameron Village is a great place to shop for the latest trendy outfit and that we’ve got the best lunch spots in town. You come often to the same stores looking for the same products – and it’s great to build relationships with merchants who know just what you need. But it’s time to break out of those comfort zones! Did you know we’re also the place for fly fishing lessons, audio book rentals, or a game of pool in a menswear store? Check out these store surprises:
Comfort foods, catered your way
We all love the line. Sliding your tray along those silver rails at K&W while you pick out classic comfort foods like grandma made? It’s a rite of passage for Raleigh folks. And oh, the yam souffle – we dream of the stuff! But did you know that K&W caters? Or that you can grab a platter of wings or a fruit tray to go? Whether you’re planning your husband’s 40th birthday, have a big family reunion coming up, or are tailgating before the big game, K&W Cafeteria has you covered.
Secret room in the back
It’s no secret that getting the men in our lives to shop for themselves can be a challenge. Here’s the magic trick – promise him that he can shop in a speakeasy, complete with a fitting room hidden behind a revolving bookcase. No, really. Our newest retailer, Alton Lane, has a pool table in front and a poker table hidden behind that magic rotating shelf. Everything about the vibe is cooler than cool, with bourbon waiting for you when you walk in the door. But the secret hidden room? That’s truly unexpected.
Lunch & Learn
Did your book club just finish reading a mystery about a diamond heist? Instead of meeting at the same old restaurant for your book discussion, maybe you’d like to host book club at Bailey’s Fine Jewelry while you learn all about diamonds. Or perhaps you’d like to celebrate a birthday with girlfriends while you learn the inside scoop about antique jewelry. If you’ve wanted to learn more about all that sparkles and shines, the expert gemologists and master jewelers at Bailey’s would love to teach you. Give them a call!
Tie up the loose ends
Ever feel like everyone else can tie a scarf just so, but yours looks just so-so? Let the folks at Lori + Lulu get you out of your accessory rut. They will teach you six – yes, SIX – different ways to tie a scarf. You’ll walk away with a new lease on life (or at least a new knot!).
Take a listen to a book
There are subscription services aplenty to listen to the latest bestseller. Book sales have declined for several years, while the popularity of audiobooks continues to soar. But did you know that you can borrow an audiobook right from our own Cameron Village branch of the Wake County Public Library? You can! While you’re in the Village meeting a friend for coffee, stop by the library to peruse the selection of audiobooks on CD. (Hint – kids audiobooks are the magic ingredient for long road trips with little ones!) No time to stop by? Pop online to borrow that book digitally! The OverDrive app will allow you to listen to that book on your favorite handheld device. And you can forget paying those overdue fines – a digital loan will return itself automatically on the day it’s due.
Did you say Fly Fishing?
No, we’re not building a lake at Cameron Village. But our friends at Great Outdoor Provision Company do offer fly fishing lessons at Foster Lake in Garner. Beginners can learn the basics of knots and ties, and how to choose the right gear for the right setting. More seasoned fishermen can take their casting skills to the next level. With just 8 participants per class, you’ll get the personal attention you need. But that also means that spaces fill up fast, so act now!
So, yes. We’re still the best spot for lunch in Raleigh, and we’ll always be the place to shop for the newest trends in fashion. But we’re also the spot for surprises, for learning new skills, for exploring new things. Stop by today and see if you can find something unexpected!
